La Regla: un antes y un después en mi vida espiritual - The Rule: a turning point in my spiritual life

Cuando conocí a Theresa y a Peter Martin en una conferencia para parejas, noté una alegría y una espiritualidad muy especiales. Me encantó su naturalidad y el amor que reflejaban, especialmente al hablar de su familia y su matrimonio. Más tarde tuve la oportunidad de cenar con ellos, y pude conocer un poco más sobre la vida de los Martins. ¡Qué gozo había en sus anécdotas! 

Entre risas y momentos más serios surgió el tema del proyecto de traducir su libro. ” Yo soy traductora”, les comenté. Lo demás es historia. Hoy, La Regla de San Juan Pablo II para un Matrimonio de Amor Divino lleno de Alegría, es una realidad y está disponible para la comunidad hispana. 

No es lo mismo leer, o inclusive estudiar un libro, que traducirlo, especialmente uno que contiene la sabiduría y el amor de un gran santo como Juan Pablo II. 

Al hacer un trabajo con tanto detenimiento, escogiendo cuidadosamente las palabras que comunicarán en su forma más fiel, una idea expresada en otra lengua, tus sentidos están completamente abiertos, absorbiendo, analizando e interpretando todo. En este caso, mi alma estaba también impregnándose de una gracia muy especial. 

¡Qué regalo tan grande me había hecho Dios al permitirme conocer a los Martins y hacerme parte de este proyecto! Ahora sabía que yo también quería salvar al mundo a través de mi matrimonio, como San Juan Pablo II lo había soñado. 

Yo también quería experimentar la espiritualidad conyugal, aunque ya había tenido vivencias en el pasado que ahora podía entender y darles nombre. Mi esposo y yo estábamos conectados de una manera difícil de explicar, pero no sabía que estábamos en la órbita de Dios por un don especial de nuestro sacramento. 

Yo quería esa comunidad de matrimonios que nos ayudaría en nuestra santificación y en esta batalla contra el secularismo y la cultura anticristiana y anti-vida. Yo quería una vida de oración profunda y también hacer apostolado con mis amigos. Mi esposo y yo teníamos muchos años trabajando con parejas y dando a conocer por diferentes medios las enseñanzas de Humanae Vitae. Pero ahora ¡yo quería todo lo que La Regla ofrecía! 

San Juan Pablo II se ha hecho presente en momentos muy importantes de mi vida, y esta no era la excepción. Conocer sus pensamientos tan profundos y aprender más sobre sus escritos sobre el amor humano, uno de sus ministerios más grandes y cercanos a su corazón, me hizo enamorarme aún más de sus enseñanzas y mi vocación de esposa. 

La Regla literalmente marcó un antes y un después en mi vida espiritual, en mi deseo por alcanzar la santidad, en mi amistad con San Juan Pablo II, y en mis expectativas como esposa de Daniel y madre de mis hijos. Y yo espero que tú vivas todo esto al descubrir y leer este tesoro que, gracias a Theresa y Peter Martin, ha sido rescatado de los escombros del tiempo y el olvido en Roma, y ahora, está a nuestro alcance. 

Te invito a abrir este libro con el alma dispuesta y dejarte sorprender por las maravillas que Dios puede obrar en tu matrimonio a través de La Regla. 

Bendito sea Dios por sus santos y su sabiduría, y por aquellos que dedican su vida a compartir sus enseñanzas.

When I met Theresa and Peter Martin at a conference for couples, I noticed a very special joy and spirituality about them. I was captivated by their genuine nature and the love they radiated, especially when they spoke about their family and marriage. Later, I had the opportunity to have dinner with them and learn a little more about the Martins' lives. What joy there was in their stories! 

Amidst laughter and more serious moments, the topic of translating their book came up. "I'm a translator," I told them. The rest, as they say, is history. Today, Saint John Paul II's Rule for a Marriage of Divine Love Filled with Joy is a reality and available to the Hispanic community. 

Reading, or even studying a book, is not the same as translating it, especially one that contains the wisdom and love of a great saint like John Paul II. 

When you work with such meticulous attention to detail, carefully choosing the words that will most faithfully convey an idea expressed in another language, your senses are completely open, absorbing, analyzing, and interpreting everything. In this case, my soul was also being imbued with a very special grace. 

What a great gift God had given me by allowing me to meet the Martins and become part of this project! Now I knew that I, too, wanted to save the world through my marriage, just as Saint John Paul II had envisioned. 

I also wanted to experience conjugal spirituality, even though I had already had experiences in the past that I could now understand and put a name to. My husband and I were connected in a way that was difficult to explain, but I didn't know that we were in God's orbit through a special gift of our sacrament. 

I wanted that community of married couples that would help us in our sanctification and in this battle against secularism and the anti-Christian and anti-life culture. I wanted a life of deep prayer and also to do apostolate with my friends. My husband and I had been working with couples for many years and sharing the teachings of Humanae Vitae through various means. But now I wanted everything that The Rule offered! 

Saint John Paul II has been present in very important moments of my life, and this was no exception. Getting to know his profound thoughts and learning more about his writings on human love, one of his greatest ministries and closest to his heart, made me fall even more in love with his teachings and my vocation as a wife. 

The Rule literally marked a turning point in my spiritual life, in my desire to attain holiness, in my friendship with Saint John Paul II, and in my expectations as Daniel's wife and the mother of my children. And I hope that you will experience all of this as you discover and read this treasure that, thanks to Theresa and Peter Martin, has been rescued from the ravages of time and oblivion in Rome, and is now within our reach.
